Words That Anchor Us...

He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
Psalm 62:6 (ESV)
Psalm 62 was the focus for our study during March. What is striking about it is that though David is in some pretty dire circumstances (as he often is!), his determination to trust in God shines through. Throughout the psalm there are reminders about the wisdom in trusting God. David urges people to trust in Him, rather then riches, or anything else humans can offer. David's circumstances may be chaotic, but there is a peace in his soul that is beyond our human understanding.
At the root of his peace is a belief that it is only in God that he finds true rest and safety. He states and repeats that God is his rock, his fortress, keeping him anchored and protected in the storms and chaos around him. He adds to this by referring to God's power and constant love. He knows he is looked after, and these thoughts are anchored into his soul.
This got us thinking about some of the words of comfort and truth from throughout the Bible, that can help us hold on to our hope in God, through our storms and chaos. Some of the verses people mentioned are here below. What do these verses say to you?
Amongst others, these passages from the Psalms were mentioned...
He will not let your foot slip-
He who watches over you will not slumber
Psalm 121:3
'Because he loves me, says the Lord, I will rescue him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my Name'.
Psalm 91:14
As well as these words Jesus spoke to his disciples...
“…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20
“In this world you may have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
We hope that you might be able to feel some peace from God as you read and reflect on these verses. Perhaps there are some verses that have helped to anchor you during some difficulty? What would you add to our list?
